"As head of Girls' Physical Education and Athletics at Melrose High School, I was responsible for a comprehensive girls program. In an era when athletic managing and coaching were considered a part of the job, the physical education teacher had to be especially dedicated to her students. While there was no remuneration for extra curricular activities, my rewards came from the many hours of involvement with those very special young women who had an enthusiastic interest in sports and our very active girls' athletic association.
